New Super Eagles coach Finidi George has introduce some unexpected choices in his starting lineup against South Africa tonight. The former Ajax winger prefers a 4-3-3 formation that emphasizes wing play and individual skill.
Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu is leading the attack, pushing Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface, who is playing as a second striker, to the bench. Alongside Boniface, Terem Moffi from OGC Nice started as a substitute. Onuachu, who scored 15 goals and made four assists in 21 Turkish Super Lig matches last season, is being supported supported by wingers Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Onuachu has scored three times in 21 appearances for the Super Eagles since his debut in March 2019. Additionally, Turkey-based Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is likely to join a midfield trio with Frank Onyeka and Alex Iwobi.
The defense is featuring fullbacks Bright Osayi-Samuel and Calvin Bassey, with Wilfred Ndidi, serving as stand-in captain, and Semi Ajayi as the central defenders. Stanley Nwabali, the Chippa United goalkeeper, maintained his position in goal following his impressive performance at the AFCON in February.
The match kicked off at 8 Pm and they are in the second half 1-1 score line
