Donald Trump has agreed to debate Kamala Harris after she declared her readiness to take him on.
Initially, Trump had refused to debate Harris, who is currently the vice president and the likely Democratic nominee for the November election, citing that she was not the official candidate.
However, Harris has now secured enough votes from Democratic delegates to become her party’s presidential nominee, even though the online voting process is set to conclude on Monday.
Trump announced his change of heart on his social media platform, ‘Truth Social’. “I am totally prepared to accept the results of this ‘coup,’ and replace Joe on the debate stage with Crazy Kamala Harris. I spent hundreds of millions of dollars, time, and effort fighting Joe, and when I won the debate, they threw a new candidate into the ring. Not fair, but it is what it is!”
In a later post in his social media platform, Trump spoke on the debate’s conditions, stating that the rules would be similar to those of his debate with “Sleepy Joe” Biden, with the addition of a full arena audience.
Initially, Trump and Kamala Harris have a disagreement about their first head-to-head debate. Each candidate favours a different broadcaster and date for the event.
The Harris campaign is advocating for a debate to be held on ABC News on September 10, a date initially set for a debate between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump. However, Trump contends that the ABC debate was canceled after Biden dropped out of the race, and he is instead pushing for a debate on Fox News on September 4.
The Fox News debate will take place in Pennsylvania at a location to be determined,” Trump wrote. “The moderators will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.”
Last month, Harris stated she was “ready” for a debate after Fox News suggested it. Harris is set to be the first woman of colour at the top of a major party’s ticket. She has not yet chosen her running mate but is expected to interview candidates over the weekend.
