A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a stabbing incident in the Gorton area near Longsight, which occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, according to Greater Manchester Police.

A 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after sustaining serious stab wounds at a residence on Barnard Road.

The woman killed in the attack has been identified as 43-year-old Alberta Obinim, as reported by Sky News.

Police are interviewing witnesses to determine the full circumstances of the incident, but early indications suggest that the suspect was known to the victims, and it is being treated as an isolated case. A crime scene remains in place as the investigation continues.

Detective Superintendent Toby Facey acknowledged the shock and concern this tragic event has caused in the local community and across Greater Manchester. “Our thoughts are with those affected and their loved ones during this difficult time. We are doing everything we can to support them.”

DS Facey also noted that officers were on the scene within minutes of the emergency call, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspect. The investigation is still in its early stages, with detectives working through the night to uncover the details of what happened and why.

Local officers will continue to make inquiries in the area, and there will be an increased presence of police patrols. Residents with concerns are encouraged to speak to the officers on duty.
