The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the reopening of Local Government Area (LGA) secretariats following orders from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.
This decision was announced by the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, on Monday.
Acting on the IGP’s directive, the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Bala, ordered the withdrawal of police personnel previously assigned to secure the secretariats.

The secretariats were sealed in June due to a conflict between caretaker committee chairmen loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former local government chairmen aligned with Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The move follows the swearing-in of 23 newly elected local government chairmen by Governor Fubara, a day after the Rivers State Independent National Electoral Commission conducted local elections.
The police confirmed that the secretariats have now been unsealed and emphasized their commitment to ensuring neutrality.
Police will only return to these locations if a crisis or law and order breakdown occurs.
The Rivers State Police Command reassured the public of its readiness to maintain peace and urged residents to stay calm and law-abiding.
