The National Sports Commission (NSC) has named Enugu State as the host of the 23rd National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled for 2026.
The announcement was made on Friday by the NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade, during a press briefing in Abuja.
According to Olopade, the decision followed a rigorous bidding process and was finalized during a high-level management meeting of the NSC.
The Coal City State emerged victorious, promising to deliver a world-class sporting event.
“This marks a historic moment for Enugu as the first time the state will host the festival since its inception in 1973,” Olopade stated.
He emphasized that the early announcement aligns with international best practices, giving the host state ample time for thorough preparations and paving the way for an unforgettable Games experience.
The National Sports Festival, a biennial multi-sport competition, brings together over 15,000 athletes from Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT. Celebrating sportsmanship, unity, and talent, it has become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s sporting heritage.

The last edition of the Games was hosted by Ogun State, in 2024, featuring over 11,000 athletes.
