The action was taken due to the failure of the allottees to pay their Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) fees despite being granted an extended grace period.

The FCT Administration, through a public notice, explained that the revocation was carried out in accordance with the provisions of Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which empowers the government to withdraw land allocations for contraventions of the terms of grant. In this case, the affected allottees failed to fulfil their financial obligations tied to the allocation of their plots.

The notice highlighted that this action is targeted only at those who defaulted on their payments. “Allottees or titleholders who have completed their payments on or before 15 January 2025 are not affected by this publication,” it clarified, reassuring compliant individuals of their continued ownership rights.

The revocation is seen as an important step towards maintaining order and ensuring accountability in Abuja’s land administration.

Non-payment of statutory fees, such as the C of O, undermines the government’s efforts to manage the capital’s land resources effectively and fairly.

A comprehensive list of the affected allottees has been published for transparency and to alert the public.

The FCT Administration urged prospective landowners to adhere strictly to payment schedules to avoid similar repercussions.
