The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has inaugurated the State-Native Authorities Joint Accounts Committee, disclosing that the state was closely indebted to pensioners.
Soludo revealed that the state was owing over N14 billion in arrears for gratuities and pensions which his administration had began paying.
Press Secretary to Soludo, Christian Aburime, stated the inauguration was finished shortly after the State Govt Council Assembly on the Authorities Home, Awka.
The committee is chaired by the state Commissioner for Native Authorities, TonyCollins Nwabunwanne, with state Commissioner for Finance, Ifeatu Onejeme; and Dr Arinze Nwankwo-Ikwueto, as Vice Chairman and Secretary respectively.
Soludo who thanked members of the Committee for accepting the appointment, stated their job was not going to be a straightforward one because it got here at a time when sources of the state had been lean and there was no a lot to work with.
