US Launches Precision Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities Amid Escalating Tensions
In a dramatic military intervention, the United States has bombed three key Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Iran.
Former President Donald Trump confirmed the airstrikes on his Truth Social platform, describing the operation as a spectacular military success. According to him, the mission was aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear enrichment capability, which he claimed posed a threat to regional and global security.
He wrote: “We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran… All planes are now outside of Iran air space.”
The strikes come in the wake of Israel’s military campaign launched on 13 June, targeting Iranian nuclear and military assets. Over 400 people have reportedly died in Iran since the Israeli strikes began, while Iranian retaliatory attacks have killed at least 24 in Israel.
What Was Targeted?
US military officials confirmed that bunker-buster bombs were used against Fordow and Natanz, while Isfahan was targeted with over two dozen Tomahawk missiles fired from a submarine.
- Fordow is a heavily fortified underground uranium enrichment facility near Qom, capable of housing nearly 3,000 centrifuges.
- Natanz is Iran’s largest nuclear site with vast halls of centrifuges. It has been previously targeted in sabotage efforts.
- Isfahan hosts a key uranium conversion facility and is vital to Iran’s nuclear fuel production.
These sites are central to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Although the United States and Israel have long accused Iran of developing nuclear weapons, Tehran insists its programme is strictly for civilian use. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stated there is no confirmed evidence that Iran is building nuclear arms.

The Weaponry Used
Trump announced what he called “massive precision strikes” but offered no technical details. The Pentagon later revealed the extent of the military operation.
- Fourteen GBU-57 bunker buster bombs were dropped from B-2 Spirit stealth bombers on Fordow and Natanz.
- Isfahan was targeted with more than two dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles.
- The GBU-57 bombs are designed to penetrate up to 18 metres of concrete or over 60 metres of earth.
- Over 125 aircraft took part in the mission, which officials say delivered 75 precision bombs undetected by Iran.
The Pentagon called this the largest deployment of B-2 bombers in history. It is also the first confirmed use of the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator in combat.
Fallout and Reactions
While Trump and the US military claim the facilities were completely destroyed, Iranian officials deny any major damage. An Iranian parliamentary adviser said Fordow had already been evacuated in anticipation of an attack.
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation confirmed the strikes but stated there was no contamination or risk to nearby residents.
“There is no danger to residents around these sites. Safety is in a stable state,” the agency announced on social media.
In a separate statement, the agency said the attacks would not stop Iran’s nuclear progress and pledged continued efforts by its scientists to maintain and advance the country’s nuclear industry.
The IAEA has also reported that there was no spike in radiation levels at or around the bombed sites.
What Next?
The US’s direct involvement in the conflict raises concerns of further escalation across the Middle East. Analysts warn of the possibility of a broader war that could destabilise the region.
As tensions mount and military rhetoric intensifies, the international community now watches anxiously for the next move in this high-stakes confrontation.
The skies over the Middle East rumble once again—and the world waits, hoping the next move is one of restraint, not ruin.
