Ghana is in mourning after a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, claimed the lives of eight people, including top government officials.
The Z9 helicopter, which was travelling from Accra to the Ashanti region on an official mission to investigate illegal mining, dropped off radar before the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed all on board were dead.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah announced the tragedy during a televised briefing, ordering flags nationwide to be flown at half-mast.

Among the victims were Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, and Vice Chair of the National Democratic Congress Samuel Sarpong.
Also on board were Deputy Director General of the Disaster Relief Agency Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, with investigations underway.
