Manchester City’s new signing Tijjani Reijnders made a dream Premier League debut, scoring and assisting as Pep Guardiola’s men thrashed Wolves at Molineux.
The 27-year-old Dutch midfielder became only the second City player to both score and assist on his league debut after Sergio Agüero. His composed finish and clever pass to Erling Haaland underlined why Guardiola called him a “top signing” and a “lovely guy” who has impressed from day one.
Reijnders joined from AC Milan this summer for £42.5m and wasted no time showcasing his box-to-box qualities. With 82 touches, 52 completed passes and 22 in the final third, he dominated midfield in the absence of Rodri and Phil Foden.

Former England striker Alan Shearer hailed him as “sensational” and “almost the perfect midfielder,” while pundit Chris Powell named him City’s “star man.”
The Dutch international has already shown flashes of understanding with Haaland, setting up the striker’s second goal. His tireless running and creativity gave Wolves no answers.
City also handed goalkeeper James Trafford a debut, with the 22-year-old keeping a clean sheet in place of the ill Ederson. Guardiola confirmed he had “no info” on Ederson’s future amid reports of Galatasaray’s interest.
For City fans, the departure of Kevin De Bruyne might have left a void, but Reijnders looks ready to write his own story.
