In a highly publicized move, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) issued a letter expressing a vote of no confidence in Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), and called for his immediate resignation.

The NLC also disavowed any association with the national convention scheduled for March 27, 2024, arguing that the convention, organized by the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee, is deemed illegal.

In response, the LP leadership urged Comrade Joe Ajero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to step down from his position in order to vie for the Chairmanship of the party, citing what they perceive as his eagerness to replace Julius Abure.

Speaking on behalf of the LP, National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh released a statement in Abuja on Saturday, addressing the situation. He noted that the LP had anticipated the NLC’s actions, as tensions had been building for some time.

Ifoh emphasized that the LP had experienced similar challenges with the NLC in the past, referring to a history of conflicts dating back to 2014. He described the NLC’s recent actions as part of a pattern of “blackmail and attrition” against the LP and its leadership.
