Today, Friday, 5 June 2024, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara reassured the public that there is no need to worry about the recent Appeal Court decision concerning the State House of Assembly crisis.
Speaking during an inspection of the reconstruction of the Zonal Hospital project in Bori Town, Khana Local Government Area, Governor Fubara emphasized that he remains undeterred by the court’s ruling.
“I want to assure everyone in Rivers State that we are not deterred. We have made our promises and will continue to provide good governance, no matter the challenges,” he stated.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja dismissed an order from a Rivers High Court that had restrained Martin Amaewhule and 24 others from acting as lawmakers in the State Assembly.
The appellate court, led by Justice Jimi Olukayode-Bada, ruled that the trial court lacked jurisdiction, as such matters should be heard in a Federal High Court.
Governor Fubara expressed confidence that the worst is behind them and reiterated his commitment to delivering democratic dividends to the people of Rivers State. “We are moving forward to ensure continued development in our state,” he said. “Government has its challenges, but we will overcome them.”
Fubara highlighted his administration’s focus on healthcare, noting that they did not inherit any functional Zonal Hospitals.
To address this, funds were allocated a month ago for the reconstruction and expansion of four zonal hospitals. The governor expressed satisfaction with the contractors’ commitment to the project.
Governor Fubara promise the public that the 2025 budget will prioritize healthcare, education, and agriculture.
He assured that the reconstructed hospitals will meet the healthcare needs of the communities and align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Accompanying the governor on the inspection tour were the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Ore, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Victor Kii, and the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Council, Marvin Yobana.
