Kano State Shuts Down MDA Accounts Over Financial Irregularities
Abba Kabir Yusuf- The Executive Governor of Kano State

The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all accounts operated by the state’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

This action is a direct response to financial irregularities that have been uncovered in various governmental bodies.

The governor, addressing the issue, stated that the irregularities observed were severe enough to warrant this sweeping decision.

He also issued a stern warning that any ministry or agency that fails to comply with this directive within one week will be subject to legal consequences.

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting attended by key government officials. Zayyid Abubakar, the Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), used the occasion to unveil a new tax collection strategy, which will operate under the unified treasury account system.

According to Abubakar, this new system is designed to significantly increase revenue for Kano State while also curbing the misappropriation of government funds, which has been a recurring issue.

The meeting saw the presence of top government functionaries, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Shehu Sagagi, as well as commissioners, heads of ministries and agencies, and representatives from various banks.

The governor’s administration is hopeful that these measures will restore financial discipline across the state’s institutions and ensure a more transparent handling of public funds.c
