Femi Falana in court suing Meta over a false health claim video.
Femi Falana lawsuit

Imagine waking up to find the entire internet convinced you’ve been battling a mysterious illness for over a decade—all thanks to a viral video you never made. Well, that’s exactly what happened to Femi Falana, the fearless Nigerian lawyer, and he’s not taking it lightly.

Falana has dragged Meta (yes, Mark Zuckerberg’s tech empire) to a Lagos High Court, demanding a cool $5 million for what he calls a reckless invasion of his privacy. Why? Because a video circulating on Facebook falsely claimed he had been suffering from prostatitis for 16 years—complete with a fabricated sob story of pain, failed treatments, and medical struggles.

In a legal smackdown citing Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, Falana insists the viral video is false, misleading, and downright ridiculous. He wants Meta to delete the video, apologise, and pay up for the emotional distress and public embarrassment it caused.

“Never had prostatitis. Never said I had prostatitis. Never even met whoever cooked up this nonsense,” Falana practically declared in court. According to him, the video is a reckless and insensitive attempt to drive traffic” to Meta’s platform at his expense.

As the case unfolds, one thing is clear—Falana isn’t about to let Zuckerberg’s empire get away with this digital disaster.

Will Meta cough up the $5M, or will this turn into the courtroom showdown of the year? Stay tuned!
