Wolverhampton Wanderers are edging closer to securing the signature of highly-rated RC Lens defender Kevin Danso, but a dramatic late twist could see Aston Villa swoop in to steal the deal before the transfer window slams shut.
The Old Gold have reportedly reached full agreement on personal terms with Danso, one of Europe’s most sought-after centre-backs. Club-to-club negotiations between Wolves and Lens remain ongoing, with the French side holding out for a fee close to €30 million (£25.1 million) for their prized asset.

The 26-year-old Austrian international, a mainstay in Ligue 1 for four consecutive seasons, has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Newcastle United, West Ham, Everton, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Atalanta, Napoli, Stuttgart, Galatasaray, and Fenerbahce. However, Wolves have moved ahead in the race, seeing off fierce competition in what would be a major defensive reinforcement for Vitor Pereira.
Just as Wolves edge closer to finalising the transfer, Aston Villa could throw a spanner in the works. Unai Emery’s side are keeping close tabs on Danso as they explore alternatives to Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, whose potential loan move remains entangled in complex negotiations.
Villa had also been in talks with Sevilla’s Loïc Badé, but those discussions have completely collapsed. With time running out before the February 3 transfer deadline, Danso has emerged as a prime target should the Disasi deal fail to materialise.
A towering 6ft 2in defender, Danso is a physical presence in the backline, excelling in aerial duels and one-on-one battles. Predominantly a centre-back, he is also capable of filling in at right-back or defensive midfield when required. His blend of strength, speed, and aggressive tackling has made him one of the most coveted defenders in Europe.
Will Wolves Seal the Deal or Will Villa Strike Late?
With time ticking down, Wolves must act fast to avoid losing their top defensive target to their Premier League rivals. Villa’s interest has added a new layer of tension to the saga, and the next few days will determine whether Danso dons the gold of Wolves or the claret and blue of Villa Park.
Will Wolves get their man, or will Aston Villa deliver a last-minute heartbreak?
