At least four people have been confirmed dead following a deadly attack by unidentified gunmen in parts of Anambra State on Monday.
The incident, believed to be linked to the enforcement of the Monday sit-at-home order, occurred in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area, and Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers stormed the Abatete community at around 8:30 am, firing indiscriminately at residents and passersby.
They moved to Ukpo Roundabout, where they continued their violent spree, targeting both civilians and members of the Anambra State Vigilante Operatives.

Videos circulating on social media show graphic scenes of victims lying lifeless in pools of blood at both locations. One video captured the President General of Abatete Community, Chief Chimame Ezigbo, being rushed to the hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds. Another vigilante operative was also critically injured and is receiving medical attention.
Although the exact number of casualties remains unclear, sources suggest that the death toll could rise. The attackers fled the scene after causing widespread panic.
IPOB has denied carrying out such a heinous crime, although all fingers continue to point at them.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and disclosed that security operatives had been deployed to the affected areas. He assured the public that further details would be provided after a full investigation.
