The attack occurred while worshippers were performing their Subhi (early morning) prayer.

According to eyewitnesses, the armed men stormed the mosque, disrupting the prayer session and forcefully taking their captives.

Residents of the community expressed concern over the persistent attacks by bandits despite the presence of security personnel in the area. They noted that the attackers had been terrorising them for some time, making daily life increasingly difficult.

However, the intervention of security operatives, led by troops of the Nigerian Army, prevented further escalation. Their swift response reportedly curtailed the activities of the gunmen, possibly averting more casualties.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday.

The Command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Rufai, assured the public that security forces were actively working to secure the release of the kidnapped victims.

A member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing the Sabon Birni B State Constituency also verified the attack. He acknowledged the efforts of security agencies in their timely intervention and called for increased measures to curb the growing insecurity in the region.

The attack has once again raised concerns about the security situation in Sokoto State and other parts of northern Nigeria, where banditry and kidnappings have become alarmingly frequent.

Residents continue to call on the government to take decisive action to protect vulnerable communities.
