A Nigerian man, Rotimi Oladimeji, has been arrested in the United States over his involvement in mail and wire fraud. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) team in New Orleans confirmed the arrest in a statement shared on X on Monday.

ICE described Mr Oladimeji as a “criminal alien” from Nigeria, posting a photo of him dressed in a grey shirt and headwarmer. His arrest follows a history of fraudulent activities that had already landed him in court. He was previously ordered to pay more than $1.1 million in restitution for fraud-related crimes.

Authorities say his offences centred on mail and wire fraud schemes, which are often used in financial scams. With this latest arrest, Mr Oladimeji now faces the likelihood of a prison sentence in the U.S. If convicted, he may also be deported back to Nigeria after serving his jail term.
