Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), including its President, Joe Ajaero, are gathering at the NLC headquarters for an emergency National Executive Council meeting.
The meeting was prompted by a summons from the Nigerian Police Force, which is investigating Ajaero on allegations of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, and cybercrime.
The police letter, dated August 19, 2024, and signed by ACP Adamu Muazu on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, directed Ajaero to appear for questioning at 10:00 am today. The letter warned that a warrant for Ajaero’s arrest would be issued if he fails to comply.
The letter stated, “This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime in which you have been implicated. You are required to report for an interview on Tuesday, 20th August 2024, at 10:00 hrs prompt, at Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja. If you fail to honor this letter, a warrant for your arrest will be issued.”
This emergency meeting shows the seriousness of the allegations and the potential implications for the NLC leadership.
