The House of Representatives is taking swift action following shocking bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Joint Committee of the House has officially summoned EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede to appear before them to address these serious accusations.
Also invited, was the social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky.
This probe is a result of a viral voice recording that suggests Bobrisky paid a hefty ₦15 million bribe to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges against him. Even more outrageous, the recording claims Bobrisky served his prison time in a luxury VIP facility rather than in a proper correctional center after being sentenced to six months for abuse of the naira.

The committee’s letter, dated September 27, 2024, requests Olukoyede, the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, and all relevant officers to appear before them with full details of their involvement in the alleged bribery scheme.
In response to the mounting pressure, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has ordered an immediate investigation into the bribery claims.
A team of investigators has been assembled to determine if any EFCC officers were involved in this scandal.
Bobrisky and VDM have also been invited by the EFCC to assist in the investigation and provide details about the alleged ₦15 million payment. None of the two have responded to the EFCC’s investigation.
Today, is the date for the hearing by the House Panel, Bobrisky was absent.
VDM refused to speak in Bobrisky’s absence, as the crossdresser had sent a lawyer to represent him. “If I say anything, let me die,” says VDM.
This standoff led lawmakers to counter the blogger’s refusal and file a motion compelling him to speak. Despite their threats to invoke legislative powers and have him arrested, VDM stood firm, insisting that his lawyer would handle the matter. However, his lawyer convinced him to finally address the committee.
VDM revealed how he got the phone recording of Brobrisky. He also submitted part of the recording to the House of Rep Panel probing the allegations made against the EFCC and NCoS. He said that the recording came from someone Bobrisky allegedly owed money.
While Bobrisky has denied all allegations, both the EFCC and NCoS have launched their own investigations into the claims, aiming to uncover the truth.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Attorney General of the Federation and the National Security Adviser to conduct an independent probe to ensure justice is served in this matter.
