The Katsina State Government has revoked the licences of all private and community schools across the state.

In a circular issued by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Zainab Musa-Musawa, through the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Sani Danjuma, the government said all existing operational licences have been terminated effective 13 August 2025.

The decision follows the state’s new education policy, which focuses on quality assurance, standardisation, and stricter regulation of private and community schools. According to Musa-Musawa, the new policy also revises licence application, registration, renewal, and school upgrade fees.

All affected schools must reapply for fresh licences by submitting proof of payment to the Department of Private and Community Schools, with payments directed only to the state’s single treasury account before 30 September 2025.

The commissioner stressed that the reform is designed to improve supervision, accountability, and the overall quality of education in Katsina. She warned proprietors against increasing tuition fees without ministry approval under the new guidelines.

Schools are to continue normal operations during the transition, while further details on categorisation and revised fees will be communicated to stakeholders.
