Nigerian chef and food influencer Hilda Baci has suffered a major setback in her attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice after the enormous pot collapsed while being lifted for weighing.

The Guinness World Record hopeful, who gained global fame in 2023 for her record-breaking cooking marathon, attracted thousands of spectators in Lagos eager to witness her latest ambitious feat.
Her recipe for the West African staple was staggering: 4,000kg of rice, 500 cartons of tomato paste, and 600kg of onions, all combined in a custom-built pot designed to hold up to 23,000 litres. The massive dish took several hours to prepare, but the real challenge came when it was time to weigh it.

As cranes attempted to hoist the colossal pot, the structure gave way under its own weight, breaking apart and preventing officials from confirming its size. Despite two separate attempts, the pot could not be weighed, cutting short Baci’s record dream.
This marks another daring, but difficult, world record effort from Hilda Baci, whose determination continues to inspire fans, even in the face of unexpected challenges.
