Nigerian music sensation Timaya ( The Plantain Boy) has opened up about his reasons for staying unmarried despite his immense success and popularity in the music industry.
In a candid interview with Naija FM, the artist, famed for his chart-topping hits and captivating personality, explained his perspective on marriage and relationships.
Timaya shared that marriage has never been a top priority for him, although he remains open to the possibility in the future. “I’ve never been a married guy right from time, but it can change because marriage ‘dey craze.’ I just look at it like if I marry today, would I be able to get out? In all my previous relationships, I was the one who got out because I don’t like stress,” he admitted.
The self-proclaimed “Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa” emphasized his need for personal freedom and a stress-free lifestyle as key reasons behind his reluctance to tie the knot.
For Timaya, communication and transparency are the cornerstones of any successful relationship. “If you have a problem with me, let’s talk about it because I don’t like going to bed thinking about things; I go die o. I don’t like anything to bother me at all,” he added.
Beyond his views on marriage, the singer also talked about his role as a father.
Despite not being romantically involved with the mothers of his children, Timaya revealed that he maintains a close and respectful relationship with them. “My kids often come to spend quality time with me, and I enjoy those moments. Even though I’m not in a romantic relationship with their mothers, we all have a respectful and familiar relationship,” he said.
Timaya highlighted both the challenges and rewards of fatherhood, expressing his commitment to being an active presence in his children’s lives.
