Yale University is adding a unique course to its curriculum, offering students a chance to study Beyoncé’s profound cultural impact.
Officially titled “Beyoncé and the Black Radical Tradition,” this course, taught by Professor Daphne Brooks, aims to explore Beyoncé’s contributions to black feminist thought and radical art practices.
Students will learn about her music, visual storytelling, and social influence, covering her work from her self-titled 2013 album to her latest release, *Cowboy Carter*.
This class joins a growing trend in academia where pop culture icons are examined as serious subjects.
Beyoncé is not the first to be studied in a university course: there have been similar studies on Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. Recognizing pop stars not only as entertainers but as influencers of social change.
Yale’s class joins offerings at other universities, like the University of Texas and Arizona State, which already offer Beyoncé-focused studies.
