President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race following increasing pressure from Democrats for him to end his reelection campaign.

Biden nominates Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s new nominee and said he would address the nation later this week with more details.

Harris stands to make history as the first Black woman and first Asian American to lead a major political party’s ticket.

Prominent Democrats, including Bill and Hillary Clinton and leading progressives, quickly voiced their support for Harris.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries also commended Biden’s decision.

Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude for President Joe Biden’s endorsement in her first public statement since his surprising announcement. “I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” Harris said.

World leaders are commending this decision.
