David Daintree, 53, killed by his XL bully dog

A man in Accrington has been killed by his own XL bully dog, according to police.

David Daintree, 53, was found dead in his home shortly before 9:30 PM yesterday.

To prevent further danger, Lancashire Police said they had no choice but to shoot the dog.

Superintendent Marie Jackson described the incident as tragic, expressing condolences to Daintree’s loved ones.

She added that an investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward. Additional officers will be present in the area to conduct inquiries and address any concerns.

Since February 1, it has been illegal to own an XL bully in England and Wales without an exemption certificate.

Owners of this breed must ensure the dog is neutered, microchipped, and kept muzzled and on a lead in public, among other regulations.

The ban was introduced after a series of attacks by XL bully dogs.
