Paris 2024 Olympics ends today with U.S. having a total of 126 medals (40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze) and China a total of 91 medals (40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze) respectively.

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s approval of ₦12 billion for Nigeria’s participation in the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, the country ended the Games without a single medals in all the 329 events.

Of the total funds, ₦9 billion was allocated for the Olympics and ₦3 billion for the Paralympics.

In a statement, Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, apologized to Nigerians for the disappointing outcome, acknowledging that the team fell short of the nation’s expectations.

Enoh detailed the challenges faced, including late preparations and the strain of managing multiple international competitions simultaneously.

He emphasized that, despite the substantial financial support and efforts to improve the athletes’ performance, the results were far below the targets.

The Minister promised a thorough review of the athletes’ readiness, coaching strategies, and administrative support, vowing to learn from the failure and turn it into a positive transformation for Nigerian sports.
