The Delta State Government has approved over N230 billion for infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and development across all three senatorial districts—Delta North, Central, and South.
Announcing the approvals in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads), Charles Aniagwu, revealed that the State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, had given the green light for several landmark projects.
Major Flyovers and Roads
Top of the list is a N59 billion flyover at Uromi Junction in Agbor, to be handled by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. The structure will include two roundabouts and specially designed 30-meter beams, which are longer than those used in past flyovers in Warri. Aniagwu described it as a game changer for traffic safety and local commerce.
Also approved:
- N39.3 billion flyover at Otouwodo along the Asaba–Ughelli Road
- N35 billion dual carriageway on Sapele Road in Effurun
Additional Road Projects
Aniagwu outlined other road constructions spread across the state, including:
- Koloko–Tissu Road in Warri North – N4.4bn
- Bomadi–Gbarigolor Road – N4.4bn
- Bulu–Angiama Road off Patani Expressway – N5.1bn
- Ituru Road in Elumeh (Okpe–Sapele) – N5bn
- Akujeba–Merije Road – N4.4bn
- Onovou Road from Benin Expressway – N2.1bn
- Olikiliki Layout Road, Asaba – N1.4bn
- Internal Roads, College of Education, Mosogar – N1.6bn
- Esuala & Emu–Obodeti Road Overlay – N2.6bn
- Camp Two Internal Roads, Warri South – N1.05bn
- Access Road, Model Technical College, Obiaruku – N1bn
- Oko Amakom, Obiakpom & Anala Roads – N1.6bn
- Okwa Crescent Road – N318m

Flood Control and Compensation
To tackle recurring seasonal flooding, the council approved:
- N15.3 billion for flood control in Agbor
- N5.6 billion for the Summit area of Asaba
In addition, N10 billion was allocated as compensation for landowners affected by the ongoing Federal Government project along the Second Niger Bridge corridor, especially within the 17.5km stretch connecting Asaba–Onitsha–Benin Expressway.
Health and Welfare
In the health sector:
- N7.1 billion will go into the purchase of medical equipment for General Hospitals under a joint initiative with the Federal Government
- N1.2 billion was approved to clear retirement benefits for 132 staff members of Delta State University
Contract Terminations
Aniagwu further disclosed that the state has terminated non-performing contracts, some of which were awarded as far back as 2013. This move aims to free up resources for more impactful projects and ensure better service delivery to communities.
