The Lagos State Police Command says calm has returned to the 3rd Mainland Bridge after residents of Oworo staged a protest over demolitions in their community. The demonstration, which took place on Monday, caused a major disruption near the Iyana Oworo Bus Stop, blocking movement from Lagos Island to the Mainland and leaving commuters stranded for hours.
Police spokesperson, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed in a statement that Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, led a joint team of Mobile Police, Tactical Units, and other operatives to the scene. He said the CP initially engaged with the protesters to hear their grievances and pleaded with them to clear the bridge. However, when the blockade continued, the police applied minimal force to disperse the crowd.

According to the command, the protest worsened traffic gridlock, trapping many motorists and even delaying emergency cases, including reports of sick persons who needed urgent medical attention. After the intervention, barricades were dismantled, traffic was restored, and no lives were lost in the process.
Oluseyi emphasised that the command remains neutral and committed to law, order, and public safety across Lagos State. He also urged residents to seek legal and peaceful channels to express their concerns, assuring that the police will continue to protect the rights and safety of all citizens.
