Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and former presidential candidate, has regained his freedom after spending two days in police custody.
Confirming his release on Friday evening via social media, Sowore thanked his supporters and allies, saying, “Nigeria Police Force has capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movement. I have been released from unjust, illegal and unwarranted detention. However, it is nothing to celebrate, but thank you for not giving up! #RevolutionNow.”

Sowore, a staunch critic of government policies and the founder of the #RevolutionNow movement, has faced multiple arrests in the past over his calls for major political and economic reforms.
His recent detention sparked widespread criticism from rights groups, legal advocates, and civil society organisations, who condemned the arrest as an assault on free speech and democratic rights.
He expressed special appreciation to human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, activist Deji Adeyanju, and others who publicly demanded his release.
