President Bola Tinubu has dissolved the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and the Ministry of Sports Development, introducing new reforms aimed at streamlining governance.
The news was announced by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday.
Under the new structure, a Ministry of Regional Development will now oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission, North East Development Commission, and South West Development Commission.
This move is aimed at consolidating regional efforts under one ministry for more efficient management.

In place of the Ministry of Sports Development, the National Sports Commission will take over the responsibilities of promoting and managing sports in Nigeria.
Additionally, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, a move likely aimed at boosting Nigeria’s cultural influence and tourism potential on a global scale.
These decisions were finalized during the FEC meeting in Abuja, which President Tinubu presided over, marking his first session since returning from a two-week working vacation.
The meeting saw the attendance of nearly all council members, with a few exceptions, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is currently in Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Before the meeting, President Tinubu swore in Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello as the new Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
In his first remarks as Chairman, Bello expressed his dedication to tackling corruption through the CCB, Nigeria’s premier anti-corruption agency.
