The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded three points and three goals to Nigeria after the Nigerian Super Eagles faced ill-treatment during their trip to Libya for the second-leg AFCON qualifier.
This decision follows an investigation by CAF’s disciplinary committee, prompted by the Libyan Football Federation’s treatment of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe emphasized that any form of poor sportsmanship or unfair practices would not be tolerated.
Following a thorough review, CAF’s Disciplinary Board, led by Chairperson Ousmane Kane of Senegal, found Libya responsible for the mistreatment of the Nigerian team.
As a result, the Libya-Nigeria match scheduled for October 15 in Benghazi was officially recorded as a 3-0 win for Nigeria.
CAF also imposed a $50,000 fine on the Libyan Football Federation, to be paid within 60 days.

The incident, in which Nigeria’s team was stranded at a Libyan airport and denied food and internet access, drew attention on social media and required diplomatic intervention before the team could depart.
This ruling emphasises CAF’s commitment to fairness and adherence to the standards set forth in its regulations, including Article 31 of the AFCON regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
This ruling will serve as a deterrent to other African football bodies that resort to ill-treatment of visiting teams as a strategy to gain an advantage.
