The Super Eagles, who are hoping to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, could only manage a draw at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, which has left their qualification chances in jeopardy. With just seven points from five matches in Group C, the outcome has placed Nigeria’s path to the World Cup under significant pressure.

Omeruo, who was absent from the matchday squad, posted an encouraging message on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Well done boys… we are almost there.. unlucky with the late goal.. #Believe” shortly after the game ended.
The match saw Napoli’s Victor Osimhen give Nigeria a crucial lead in the 74th minute with a clinical header from Ola Aina’s cross.
However, Zimbabwe stunned the home crowd by equalizing in the dying seconds of the match. Tawanda Chirewa scored the dramatic late goal in the 90th minute, leaving the Super Eagles devastated.
