A Lagos High Court has dismissed the preliminary objection filed by social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), in a ₦1 billion defamation lawsuit brought against him by human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, musician Folarin Falana (Falz). The court also imposed a ₦200,000 fine on VDM for his unsuccessful objection.
Background of the Case
The lawsuit stems from a video posted by VDM on his Instagram account (@verydarkblackman) on September 24, 2024. In the video, VDM allegedly made defamatory remarks about the Falanas, accusing them of obstructing justice in a case involving controversial figure Bobrisky. The Falanas claim that these statements were false and damaging to their reputations.
